If you do, we want you on our team! Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors and other builders to provide assistance in choosing lumber and building materials to fit their needs.  You will provide estimates of products needed to complete a variety of projects such as new homes, remodeling projects, commercial buildings, garages, and decks.  You can be proud in helping build our community!

You must have a valid driver’s license, working motor vehicle, and clean driving record.  We provide training to keep up on industry trends and technological advances in construction practices.

This position is provided with a competitive base-wage, commission supplement, and full-time benefits.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain sales relationships with contractors and other builders to solicit sales of lumber and building materials.
  • Daily sales calls to contractors, home-owners, and other builders with purpose of selling building materials.
  • Provide estimates of materials needed to complete a variety of projects such as new homes, remodeling projects, commercial builidngs, as well as smaller projects including garages and decks.
  • Place orders for products and hardware per customers’ specifications.
  • Consistently monitor sales and profitability for each customer.
  • Work closely with delivery staff to ensure timely deliveries and smooth operational efficiencies.
  • Meet performance expectations of the Company including various goals that are established annually.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in lumber, building materials, residential construction, and/or sales field.
  • High school diploma or GED from accredited school system or program.
  • Must be 21 years of age and have a current driver’s license, working motor vehicle, and clean driving record with the ability to be covered by our insurance carrier.
  • Proficient basic math skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
  • Basic computer skills (email, word-processing, spreadsheets) and ability to learn our store’s Point of Sale program and other programs as needed.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and be detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and think analytically.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in lumber, building materials, residential construction and/or related sales experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building processes, codes, and best practices.
  • Ability to interpret building plans and/or technical documents.

Working Conditions

Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am-5:00pm

This full-time, overtime-exempt salaried position requires flexibility in schedule and work-site during our busy season.  Monthly commission supplement payments are based on sales performance.

Physical Conditions:

  • Work indoors for up to 80% of the work day and outdoors in all types of weather conditions for up to 20% of the work day, often on unpredictable terrain at job-sites.
  • Be able to lift at least 25 pounds on  a regular basis.
  • Variety of activities including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, kneeling, bending, crawling and lifting items.  
  • These physical requirements must be met with or without accommodation.

Basic Skills:

  • Maintain positive attitude and outstanding customer service.
  • Basic arithmetic skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills (email, word-processing, spreadsheets) and ability to learn our store’s Point of Sale program.
  • Ability to recognize and properly react to safety hazards encountered.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain solid relationships with customers, vendors, and other employees.
  • Ability to work well with all types of people in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Applicant must be able to perform these basic skills at time of employment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Applicable industry knowledge or experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building processes, codes, and best practices.
  • Knowledge to understand and interpret building plans and/or technical documents.
